Day trip in Welgevonden by Dean Laubscher

The day started early as myself and six guests drove into Welgevonden. The sun was just busy rising and we could see it bright up the side of a full grown six ton elephant. He stood about two meters from the road but completely relaxed. We took photos and marveled at this amazing animal for a couple of minutes before leaving…Ten minutes later the open plains off Sterkfontein laid stretched open in front of us, I stopped and through our binoculars we could see Impalas, Zebras, Red Hartebeest and about twelve White Rhinos. We drove down and looked at the white rhinos, as we drove to a beautiful dam to have breakfast we found two lions in the road and they escorted us down the road for the next twenty minutes. While we were having breakfast the guests were telling me how unbelievable it is that we saw all these animals in less than two hours and yes it was unbelievable. After breakfast we headed north in a hope to see the animals that like the bushveld habitat and occur on that side of the park, we weren’t disappointed… we saw leopard, crocodile, giraffe and many more…We exited Welgevonden Game Reserve leaving only footprints and taking only memories….
